In Spectromancer, a fantasy card game from Three Donkeys and Apus Software, players take part in a magical duel against other mages by strategically summoning creatures and casting spells. Each mage uses five magical elements during a duel – Fire, Water, Air and Earth, plus a fifth element related to the specific mage type. You can duel against the computer or live against other players online.
The game was co-designed by Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic: The Gathering, and Alexey Stankevich, creator of Astral Tournament and Astral Masters. Unlike most collectible card games, players do not build a deck before the game: each turn you gain one mana in each element and may play a single card, and cards are never "used up". The game ends when one player brings the other's life total down to zero – no character leveling, no grinding, no deck building, just skill-based and fast-paced card battles.
Gathering of Power (2013) is the latest and most complete edition of the game. It includes the original Spectromancer (released in October 2008) and the upgrades League of Heroes (2010) and Truth & Beauty (2011). In 2022 the DRM was removed from this edition, with changes to make it run better on modern computers. Online play is cross-platform between PC and iOS.
