Security & Encryption Software

Security & Encryption covers tools that protect your data and privacy: file and disk encryption, password managers, secure file deletion, firewalls, anti-spyware and tools that lock folders or programs. They help keep personal and business information safe if a computer is lost, stolen or shared.

Choose security software from developers that still release updates, and prefer tools that use well-known, standard encryption. Always keep a safe copy of your passwords and recovery keys: with strong encryption, a forgotten password usually means the data cannot be recovered. For real-time malware protection, see the Antivirus category.
