Honomalino Beach, The Big Island of Hawaii This video was shot one morning on the secluded Honomalino Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. The beach itself is relatively secluded and is literally off the beaten trail. The best set of directions can be found in the book "The Big Island Revealed", by Andrew Doughty. From the time we arrived at the parking lot (sort of) for this wonderful beach my wife was pitching a fit about having to be there. That was nothing considering the fit she threw as we hiked to the Beach. That is until we crested the sandy hill and dropped down on the beach where we simply sat in awe of not only the beauty but also the mere fact we had the beach all to ourselves. As we sat on the black sandy beach and listened to the small waves break on the shore we were simply mesmerized by the entrance of a small band of spinner dolphins into the cove. We literally sat there for almost an hour watching them as they swam in their sleep pattern within the cove. Then there is the occasional dolphin leaping out of the water spinning in the air only to return to the zombie like semi conscious swimming that is their sleep. The water is very calm here and snorkeling is definitely more enjoyable here as there are fewer people to share the water and the water is not as volatile due to the cove like setting. But if snorkeling is not your thing and you don?t want to swim feel free just to lay back on the beach and enjoy the ocean breeze, the lightly breaking waves and the palm trees swaying in the breeze.
