About RealPlayer

RealPlayer from RealNetworks is one of the oldest media players. It was first released on 3 April 1995 as RealAudio Player and was one of the first programs able to play audio streamed over the internet. Version 4.01 was even included as an optional internet tool in Windows 98. Later versions were called RealPlayer G2 (version 6) and RealOne Player (version 9), which also took over the features of the separate RealJukebox program.

What it does today. RealPlayer plays common audio and video formats as well as the classic RealAudio and RealVideo (RealMedia) files, it can convert media files to other formats, and it organizes your music and videos in a library. Since RealPlayer 18 (2016) it has also included features for making photo and video montages and storing media in the RealPlayer Cloud.

Editions. There is a free version and a paid RealPlayer Plus with extra features. RealPlayer is still developed for Windows – the current version is 25 – and is available as a mobile app for Android. The Mac version is no longer offered; its last release was 12.0.1 in 2012.
