LoadScout was a Windows download tool from SoftLogica with an unusual specialty: it could look inside remote files before you downloaded them. By fetching only a small part of a file on a web or FTP server, it showed details of MP3 and AVI media files and listed the contents of ZIP archives – and it could extract just the files you needed from an archive instead of downloading the whole thing.
Other features. LoadScout integrated with Internet Explorer through an "Open with LoadScout" right-click command, included its own FTP client and a download engine that could fetch several files at once and resume unfinished downloads. It supported FTP, HTTP and SOCKS proxies and let you save frequently used sites as favorites.
Discontinued. The last version listed was 3.0 (2009). LoadScout was built for Windows 95 to XP and Internet Explorer, and it is no longer offered. This page is kept as a historical record; see the alternatives below for a current download manager.
